Lobito Corridor Boosted by $320M Deal: Implications for Regional Trade

$320 Million for Lobito Corridor: A Game-Changer in Mineral Logistics

In August, the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) secured $320 million from Italy to fund the Lobito Corridor — a major rail and road link connecting Zambia and the DRC to Angola’s Atlantic port.

Why does this matter for East Africa? Because regional corridors don’t exist in isolation. A more competitive Lobito route could shift trade flows, diversify export pathways, and reduce overreliance on traditional routes through Mombasa and Dar es Salaam.

For logistics watchers, it’s another reminder that Africa’s supply chain story is being rewritten corridor by corridor. And sometimes, the headline-grabbing investments in Angola or Zambia eventually ripple right back to Nairobi, Kampala, and beyond.
